The deadline for applications is being extended in order to raise awareness of this new, exciting project and to attract as many applications as possible. The post will involve managing a team of volunteer co-ordinators who will conduct a survey of Lodge and Chapter records in England and Wales. The results will be made available for future use by researchers via the L&M website. The volunteer co-ordinators will be responsible for collecting information about the preservation and storage of records held by Lodges/Chapters using National Preservation Office models. This innovative project represents unique use of the NPO preservation assessment methodology among archives held by a private organisation. The Project aims to encourage good record keeping practice among Lodges and Chapters and, where possible, the deposit of older records with local record offices. We are undertaking a project, using volunteers, to record the historical records of Masonic lodges across England and Wales. We are seeking a Co- ordinator for this project based at the Library and Museum in Central London PROJECT MANAGER – ARCHIVES SURVEY (Commencing Spring 2008) Part time (14 hours per week) Two year contract £10,500 pa (equivalent to £26,000pa) To co-ordinate the voluntary work of provincial co-ordinators in collating a comprehensive survey of archives created by lodges and chapters, establishing a methodology for data collection while recording and ensuring consistent standards are applied to data collection and providing advice on any conservation/preservation issues which arise. To supplement this locally obtained information with other information held centrally and in local or national archives. Using this information to help develop statistical historical information and finding aids for researchers. We are seeking an archivist with a recognised postgraduate qualification who is an enthusiastic and motivated individual with excellent communication and organisational skills. Experience of working with volunteers, presentation skills and familiarity with the use and collection of statistical data would be desirable but no previous knowledge of freemasonry is required.
