Dear SPM-list, Applications are invited for a fully-funded PhD studentship to start in October 2008, in the School of Psychology, Bangor University. The student will be co-supervised by Dr Robert Ward and Dr Paul Downing. This studentship will investigate the interaction of cortical and subcortical areas in defining neural representation of visual space. The project will involve fMRI scanning of a rare group of selected thalamic patients we have studied extensively over the past few years. We will investigate how retinotopic maps in occipital cortex are altered as a consequence of damage to retinotopic maps in the thalamus. This project would require the student to learn fMRI techniques, specifically retinotopic mapping, and use this approach to test neuropsychological hypotheses relating to specific neural circuits and models of attention. The Studentship will be undertaken within the School of Psychology, which was given the top rating of 5*A in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. The School houses a 3T MRI scanner and associated equipment for stimulus delivery, response collection, data analysis, etc. For further details: http://www.psychology.bangor.ac.uk/postgraduate/studentships.php.en Informal enquiries can be made to: r.ward at bangor.ac.uk -- Mae'r e-bost yma'n amodol ar delerau ac amodau ymwadiad e-bost Prifysgol Bangor.
