Does anyone use an external provider to manage absence? If so could you please provide any information as to how the implementation would affect the in house OH service?

I've never seen an ear infection clear up in only one day.
But the GP should not be asked to supply a Med 3 for absences of less than 7 days.

I'd look at the state of his ear protection, and possibly get another, different type

Hi ,List,
I have a gentleman who works in an area that requires mandatory hearing protection. He has worked there for 2 years no problem. He as recently had several instances [4 since new year] odd days where he has been sent home because he says he cannot wear ear defenders as they are causing him to have ear infections {he has  always worn muff type, no previous problems] So far [I have only just been notified of this] he has produced no evidence of this e.g. F med 3.  While I am aware that ear infections can cause distress, this chap  is the type who would use this as  excuse to have a day of whenever it suits. I am obviously going to look into it by checking the infection is genuine but I would welcome opinions.  If they are genuine then is it caused by defenders, is there an alternative, or is he then verging being unfit for the job.Personally I think he may be chancing it but will give him the benefit of the doubt first!
                                                                           thanks Carol
