Clare, The RAF are like the Army and Royal Navy, that is there is no such thing as self-certification unless you are a civilian employee. Service personnel must report sick on day one to their base medical centre and be assessed by a medical officer who will make a decision on whether they are sick or not, and then apply restrictions on activity as necessary. If they are on leave at the time and will not be able to report back when required they must contact the nearest unit to them and report there to be assessed, or be sent to the nearest Civilian Medical Practitioner contracted to MoD.
