Hi Gail Like you, I no longer give the GP an option. I write to them on the day I assess the employee. I explain what the individual can do and the role we have identified for temporary work. I give the GP a week to respond, if they have any objections, none have done so far. I send the letter by registered post so I have a trail in case they say have never received it. Hope this helps Allison In a message dated 07/01/2008 11:18:50 GMT Standard Time, [log in to unmask] writes: In reference to GPs and support or in some cases lack of... Like everyone I have GP s that will work with me and some who see me as irrelevant to their patients lives. I have invited every GP in our local area to a freebie lunch tour with gifts at the end - and had NO takers! I write to GPs explain my role and express my hope that we will work together and only once have ever had a positive response. To top it all - this morning I have had a young girl with a sprained wrist (work accident last week) bring in a sick note for 4 weeks - X-ray NAD, full range of movement although sore, no swelling bruising etc. She was wearing a sling as it was hurting and she was told by her GP that it may take weeks to heal and she must rest it! Like a lot of OH professionals I have a long list of this type of case. In the past I have written to GPs asking them if we can do this but it has taken so long to get a response I figure its time I tried another way! therefore I am writing to her GP to let him know that we will be arranging for a temporary job that she can do while she heals that will not interfere with her recovery and should he have any concerns or comments he should contact me. Any other thoughts or advice from experience?
