Subject: Clinical pathway research report - now available



Dear list members 

I have recently completed an ethnographic study exploring the
implementation of a clinical pathway for normal labour in Wales UK,
funded by the Health Foundation. The study focused on the experiences of
midwives, mothers, doctors and midwifery managers. The clinical pathway
was found to have complex and unexpected outcomes, particularly
impacting on the working practices of midwives and on midwife-doctor
relationships. The findings raise some interesting questions about the
subtle effects of using clinical pathways in midwifery.
