2008 Call for Papers
For the 14th Annual FIGSA Conference
Sponsored by the French and Italian Graduate Student Association (FIGSA)
of The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH

April 18-19, 2008

Memory and Trauma

We welcome proposals that focus on:
•	Problematic relationships with the past as seen in cinema and
literature
•	The memory of war and of the Holocaust
•	The importance of monuments as symbols of trauma :
o	Literary representations of memory and trauma
o	Artistic representations of memory and trauma
•	Classical and Humanist movements in the Renaissance
•	The use of the symbols of the past to justify and exalt the
present
•	Timeless figures in history, literature, art 
•	The frenetic succession of different forms of government in
specific time periods: reasons and hypotheses
•	The importance of the idea of  “Patrie/Patria,” of Homeland


Topics dealing with Italian and Francophone Literature (including Islamic
and other religious issues, racial minorities, and linguistic minorities),
Gender Studies (including sex and sexuality, and women’s studies), History
and History of Art are particularly welcome. Papers may be presented in
English, French or Italian. 
Those interested in presenting a paper should submit an abstract to

Papers should not exceed 20 minutes in length (8-10 pages).
