UCL Institute of Child Health
and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust

Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Research Associate / Senior Research Associate

Applications are invited for a Research Associate
or Senior Research Associate position at the UCL
Institute of Child Health. We are looking for an
experienced and enthusiastic researcher to play a
lead role in a project examining physical
activity levels, obesity and risk of
cardiovascular disease in British adults. This
project will provide insights into the extent to
which health consequences of obesity can be
modified by physical activity and whether any
modifying effect of activity varies by social position.

The study is funded by the Department of Health
(DH) as part of the DH Public Health Research
Consortium. It is based on a rich longitudinal
dataset - the 1958 British birth cohort - which
has followed individuals throughout childhood and
adulthood to age 45y. The post holder will be
responsible for carrying out secondary data
analysis and the write-up of reports on the
project. This post offers an excellent
opportunity in an important area of public health
research. It will allow an experienced researcher
to develop and apply their skills and experience
in a range of research methods within a
multidisciplinary research group. Appropriate
training opportunities will be available.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject
or equivalent. Research experience is essential
for this post, preferably in epidemiology,
medical statistics, nutrition or another related
subject. Candidates must have strong analytical
skills and experience of secondary data analysis,
preferably using large epidemiological datasets.

The post is funded for 18 months.

If a Research Associate is appointed the salary
will be on Grade 7 of the UCL salary scales,
which ranges from £26,666 - £32,796 per annum. If
a Senior Research Associate is appointed salary
will be on Grade 8 of the UCL Salary scales which
ranges from £33,779 - £40,335 per annum. Salary
will depend on qualifications and
experience. London Weighting of £2,572 per annum is also paid per annum.
