UCL Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics Research Associate / Senior Research Associate Applications are invited for a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate position at the UCL Institute of Child Health. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic researcher to play a lead role in a project examining physical activity levels, obesity and risk of cardiovascular disease in British adults. This project will provide insights into the extent to which health consequences of obesity can be modified by physical activity and whether any modifying effect of activity varies by social position. The study is funded by the Department of Health (DH) as part of the DH Public Health Research Consortium. It is based on a rich longitudinal dataset - the 1958 British birth cohort - which has followed individuals throughout childhood and adulthood to age 45y. The post holder will be responsible for carrying out secondary data analysis and the write-up of reports on the project. This post offers an excellent opportunity in an important area of public health research. It will allow an experienced researcher to develop and apply their skills and experience in a range of research methods within a multidisciplinary research group. Appropriate training opportunities will be available. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent. Research experience is essential for this post, preferably in epidemiology, medical statistics, nutrition or another related subject. Candidates must have strong analytical skills and experience of secondary data analysis, preferably using large epidemiological datasets. The post is funded for 18 months. If a Research Associate is appointed the salary will be on Grade 7 of the UCL salary scales, which ranges from £26,666 - £32,796 per annum. If a Senior Research Associate is appointed salary will be on Grade 8 of the UCL Salary scales which ranges from £33,779 - £40,335 per annum. Salary will depend on qualifications and experience. London Weighting of £2,572 per annum is also paid per annum.
