Improving European social statistics: making better policy
 
Michel Glaude (Eurostat), Professor Roger Jowell (City University), and
Gerry O'Hanlon (CSO Ireland)
 
 
This meeting will consider how the European statistical community can
improve policy makers' understanding of social changes.  It should appeal to
people interested in European statistics, especially social statistics and
surveys, and to those interested in the relationship between policy making
and statistical evidence.
 
The speakers will consider, from their different perspectives:
 
EC policy drivers for European social statistics
The scope for improving the co-ordination of research and methodology,
communication with stakeholders (including about data limitations), and the
identification of best practice
Priorities for the development of European social statistics generally, and
social surveys in particular
 
 
The meeting will be chaired by Jil Matheson, of ONS. Attendance is free but
