STOCKHOLM UNIVERSITY invites applications for a position as PROFESSOR of Mathematical Statistics, at the Department of Mathematics Deadline for applications: January 31, 2008 Subject description: Mathematical statistics consists of statistical theory and probability theory, with their applications. Main tasks: Research, supervision of graduate and master students, teaching on advanced and basic level, and administrative tasks within department and faculty. The Division of Mathematical Statistics has a well-established and mutually productive collaboration with many other research areas (biology, chemistry, medicine, insurance and finance). The holder of the chair is expected to contribute to and stimulate not only theoretical research but also the development of applied activities, for example through interdisciplinary research projects with external funding. The professor is expected to be able to teach at all levels and to contribute to the development of advanced and master level education. Teaching at basic level is mostly in Swedish. If the appointee does not already have a reasonable command of Swedish, he/she is expected to learn the language, and the department will provide the opportunity to acquire the necessary proficiency.
