Media officer
The Interdisciplinary
Laboratory (ILAS) of the
ILAS is now seeking two
media officers to work on a European project entitled "Brains in Dialogue: Brain
Science at the service of European citizens" (BID). The project aims at building
an effective dialogue among key-stakeholders in a crucial area of health
advancement: Brain Science, and in particular Predictive Medicine, Brain Imaging
and Brain Machine Interfaces. All social actors interested in the advancement of
medicine will be involved in order to raise a concrete discussion among
scientists, clinicians, pharmaceutical companies, health operators, patients'
associations, experts in ethics, legal and social issues dealing with those
topics. This will be done by organising a series of workshops and open forums in
different European countries, building a press office and establishing and
maintaining a website hosting a blog and a radio and TV-web
activity.
The roles will include
liaising with the different stakeholders and the media at the European level,
building and managing a Press office and developing an interactive website. In
particular, the Press Office will act as a contact point between the European
media and the stakeholders in the different fields: it will be responsible for
the public relation and the dissemination of the activities carried out within
the BID project and for the management of the scientific manuscripts and
articles published by the European press. It will also produce text and
audio-visual material for the media and educational material for the general
public. A new website entirely dedicated to Predictive Medicine in Brain
science, Brain imaging and Brain machine interfaces will be created to provide
easy access to the material and to promote the continuation of the dialogue
among the different stakeholders.
The ideal candidate
should:
- be a native English
speaker or have an excellent knowledge of written and spoken
English;
- hold a degree and
ideally a Master or PhD in science communication, psychology, sociology or
history of science;
- have a sound
experience in science communication to the general public, the scientific
community or the media;
- have excellent
communication and interpersonal skills and experience of working collaboratively
with a wide range of organizations and audiences;
- ideally have some
experience in the preparation of audio-visual
material;
- have an interest in
neuroscience.
The post holder will be joining a team of young researchers and science communicators who are active on different science and society issues. The position will be for three years with an indicative starting date on the 1st February 2008.
