Have you tried using the Google Books search (particularly using the FULL
VIEW) at http://books.google.co.uk/bkshp?tab=wp which should bring up a
multitude of 'copyright free' journals of the early 19th Century, available
to download in pdf files which may help

In general the Google Book search is a very useful and revealing tool!

Subject: Re: Mining in Newfoundland

Dear List,

Is there any history of hard rock mining in Newfoundland prior to late 18th/
early 19th century?

Have scanned Google but have not turned anything up.

Kindest regards,

Trevor
