medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

I ws reading Richard Rolle's English writings, and came across the word "losingeres" which would roughly approximate the Provencal "lauzengieres"(meaning gossips). Is there any proof--whether on the level of primary sources or secondary criticism--that shows mystics and religious in the Middle Ages were familiar with this trope of the gossip who occupies the role of love's heretic in medieval troubadour circles? Or is it a pure coincidence of recurrence alone?
