http://dc2008.de/programme

Dear colleagues,

During DC 2008 in Berlin tutorials will be provided to participants.
We are planning to offer two kinds of tutorials:

a) giving an general introduction to DC and its state-of-the art of implementation - each of them lasting 90 minutes:

T1:     DC history and basics: What, how, who?
T2:     DC develop-ments & concepts
T3:     DC in use: examples in practice
T4:     DC in relation to other metadata standards and approaches

Audience: up to 150

and

b) Topic-of-the-day-tutorials introducing a special DC-related topic - each of them lasting 50 minutes:

T5:     Semantic Web
T6:     RDA
T7:     Social Computing

Audience: up to 150

The introductory tutorials (T1-T4) are intended as participatory events given by two tutors, one the main presenter, the other a practical implementer and in some way animator for the involvement of the audience. T1-T4 will be offered on one day.

Additional information related to the expected content of the tutorials T1-T4:
T1:     Origins and development of DC as an element set, a standard and an organisation, along with the core elements (the Dublin Core namespace terms)
T2:     An extension of T1: refinements, encoding schemes, the abstract model, syntax issues
T3:     Some practical experience and demonstration (at least 2 examples from different communities of practice)
T4:     Differences of scope and service capability between DC and other standards; interoperability issues when using DC and other standards; extensibility and application profiles

Colleagues with experience in these topics and in teaching are kindly invited to express their interest in delivering these tutorials.
Outlines of content and the way of delivering the tutorials (max. 4 pages) are welcome.
The proposals will be subject to peer review of both content AND the didactical concept to involve the audience.
Expressions of interest should be sent to
