INGEBORG BACHMANN CENTRE FOR AUSTRIAN LITERATURE
at the
INSTITUTE OF GERMANIC & ROMANCE STUDIES
University of London School of Advanced Study

Friday, 30 November 2007
10.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.

Vienna's imperial legacy, its present-day marketability as a centre for cultural tourism, and its undoubted political and artistic primacy amongst Austria's relatively modest number of urban centres, have meant that many aspects of Austrian life still remain unknown to external observers. Vienna's very familiarity to the outside world has impeded a more profound critical understanding of life beyond the city's borders. This multi-disciplinary conference brings together scholars from the UK, Austria, and Slovakia, whose research, be it diachronic or synchronic in approach, aims to provide new insights into the multifaceted nature and diversity of Austrian society.
