(pdf version available from: http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/cfp/gitscfp1.pdf) Best regards, Jan-Dirk ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems: Special Issue on Improving Network Reliability Issues through ITS Applications Network Reliability is an increasingly important topic in transportation planning. In the coming years in most developed countries major investments will not be made to achieve reductions of travel time but to provide more predictable travel times which are resilient to minor or major disruptions. In order to achieve this ITS has to play a key role. Advanced travel information systems for passengers and timely en-route information for car drivers are one of the best ways to avoid un-necessary delays for travellers. Effective data collection techniques are needed in order to understand and predict the network condition. Further effective network control strategies, including demand management measures such as road tolls and access control, will be needed. These are just a selection of issues where new ITS developments will be required to improve network reliability. This special issues aims to collect significant papers that address network reliability issues through an innovative use of ITS technologies. Submission details : Deadline for Submission is 31 December 2007. All papers will be peer-reviewed by the end of March 2008 and the selected ones will be published in summer 2008.
