That’s really helpful Anthony. I will certainly check out Sugriizmas TC and I will try and keep you and the TC list posted
on developments. I have already asked Rowdy for feedback if and when he visits
the project.
Thanks again for your encouragement – it feels so good to
be part of the wider TC family. Long may it continue!
Kind regards,

Andy, maybe you are right, but if we can help, just ask. But in
the spirit of what you and your colleagues are trying to achieve… and you
can’t do much better than have a close contact with Rowdy.
By the way, Sugriizmas TC in Lithuania is also very closely
connected to 12 steps. I have no doubt that Valdas Siskus and his team would be
pleased to share experiences with you.
You can find some information about them on RadioTC
International and also contact details.
Please do keep me, and us posted as to developments, we also use
EuropeAsi and the feedback formulae here at Phoenix, as the first part of
developing a treatment alliance and individual treatment plan. So, yes,
I’m interested to hear more about how you go forward.
Best wishes,
Anthony

Andy,
Excellent News! It’s really good to read such positive
information, thank you.
I look forward to hearing more, and hopefully it’s not
only elements of the TC philosophy that are being introduced, but also some of
the best practices. It sounds like that, from what you have said in your
message.
Good luck!
Anthony

I have just informed Rowdy that my company has won the contract
to evaluate this new project (LEAP – Lothians and Edinburgh Abstinence
Project) over the next two years. We will be using the ASI-X to help develop an
outcome monitoring programme and will be following up clients initially at 6
and 12 month post treatment intervals. We will hopefully be able to compare
these outcomes against a control group – which we are trying to set up at
present – to see whether the LEAP programme provides better results for
clients than the traditional interventions which are currently available.
I can confirm that the programme is seeking to include elements
of TC philosophy although they are probably more aligned to 12 steps in their
thinking. It is a very exciting initiative to be involved in as it is an
attempt by the Scottish Government to pilot new schemes aimed at ending the
reliance on methadone prescribing and purely opiate based interventions. It is
also a response to service user surveys which indicate that the majority of
clients do actually register abstinence as a goal of treatment. For some reason
this appears to be new and surprising information to a lot of the powers that
be in the drug and alcohol sector in the UK! Personally I think it is plain
common sense and a fairly logical conclusion but maybe I’m just turning
into an old cynic?!!
I’ll be happy to keep folk informed, as well as Rowdy, as
to developments with this project – especially from a TC point of view.
Kind regards,
Andy Perkins

This
new organisation in Scotland does not refer to itself as a TC but does have TC
elements and sounds interesting. I am hoping to visit them soon and get a
clearer picture:
