The CSIRO ICT Centre is building a role for Australia as a global ICT innovator by delivering leading-edge Information and Communication Technology solutions for industry and society. The Centre has over 250 researchers across Australia working on a wide range of ICT technologies and application areas

We are seeking to appoint a Research Scientist to join the Biomedical Imaging team located at the e-Health Research Centre in Brisbane. The Biomedical Imaging team is a leading Australian medical imaging research group, with a well developed expertise in image registration, extraction of quantitative information (shape, volume, texture), morphometry, soft-tissue modelling (3D meshing, visual and haptic interaction) and data classification. We are currently developing a new classification system for early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) using newly developed PET biomarkers and MR imaging. This study is in collaboration with the Australian leading PET and MR centers, and involves a longitudinal study on a cohort of over 250 patients. Structural changes, such as local thinning and hippocampal volume can be embedded in a statistical model of changes over time, used thereafter to create a statistical atlas. Such atlases have a large range of applications in registration and segmentation, where tissue atrophy can be a major issue, especially for non-rigid registration methods.

The successful applicant will be involved in activities focused on the development and application of novel techniques for segmentation, registration and analysis of MR images. This position offers the opportunity to work in a high quality research environment, with strong clinical collaboration. The research scientist will join a large team (>15 scientists, post-doctoral fellows, and students) in an exciting working environment ideally located in one of the fastest growing city in Australia close to many attractions and beautiful beaches.

Minimum qualification is a PhD in Medical Imaging and demonstrable innovative skills, as evidenced by publications and research experience.

More details can be found on our website, position closes 11 November 2007.
