Dear all,
“As 个 and 介 were near homophones, they were interchangeable in Classical Chinese”,
From my limited
knowledge, which
were interchangeable in a certain instance in Classical
Chinese——only when
“介”was
used as “个” (相通 if in a grammar term). For example: in《书·
秦誓》“如有一介臣” and in 《礼记·大学》was used as “若有一个臣”。
In classical
Chinese, “介”
for most time was used as a verb. In《汉书· 翼奉传》“后介大河”,“介”
was used as “to separate”;in
《榖梁传· 文公十五年》“不以难介我国也”,“介”
was used as “to approach”; in 《左传·文公六年》“介人之宠,非勇也”, was used as “to depend upon “etc. Even in today’s
Chinese, we still use it as a verb, for example “请不要介意”. (as same as
请不要放在心上)
“介”
could be an adjective. In 《东明张先生墓志》,“介洁而周流”,
“介”
was used as “exclusive”.
“介”
was also often used as auxiliary word in the classical Chinese.
In classical Chinese, “個”与
“箇”were often interchangeable: in
王维《同比部杨员外十五夜游》“个里多情侠少年”;in 范成大《余杭初出陆》“少见行人似个侬”,
“个”even in classical Chinese and in traditional writing, in
the following two cases we should still write as “个”, and
it was not “個”. One used as measure word, like today’s “枚”. For example: in《史记·货殖列传》“竹竿万个”;
the other was used as houses along the two sides of main hall, for example in
《礼记·月令》“天子居青阳左个”。
“ 竹/ 固 was created in
mediaeval
It is very
interesting for me to hear and I really want to know more about it. Mediaeval is
a western term, from 476 AD -1640 AD, it is a quite long period of time. Could
Cc or other teachers kindly tell me “竹” in
which particular period was used as “个”
please? What kind of connection and
evolution is it between “个“and
“固”
?
Many
thanks,
