Joint MRC and NIHR Methodology Research Programme (MRP) launched

<http://www.nccrcd.nhs.uk/intetacatrain/2008recruitmentprocessacfs> The Medical Research Council (MRC) and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) have launched a new Methodology Research Programme (MRP) to support the development of new and improved systems and theories for health research.

This initiative forms a key part of the developing MRC-NIHR joint strategy for publicly-funded health research. The programme will be managed by the MRC as the lead organisation, on behalf of the MRC-NIHR partnership.

The programme will include methodological research previously covered by the MRC research boards and the NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) methodology panel.

The MRP's focus is on research with methods development as its primary purpose and methodological outputs that are applicable beyond a specific case-study. The scope of the MRP includes research on methods development to underpin the biomedical sciences, experimental medicine, clinical trials, population health sciences, health services research and health policy.

The MRP has a budget of over £60m and will work in commissioned and investigator-led modes. The first deadline for research proposals will be 8 February 2008.
