GIS Manager - Transport for London (Maternity Cover)

GIS Manager - Traffic and Technology, Congestion Charging
(Maternity Cover 9-month fixed-term contract)
£33,000

Transport for London is accountable for both the planning and delivery of London's buses, the London Underground, the Docklands Light Railway, London Trams, London River Services, Victoria Coach Station and London's Transport Museum. As well as regulating taxis and the private hire trade, it manages 580km of the capital's roads, runs the central London congestion-charging scheme and works closely with the rail industry.

Our multi-disciplinary Traffic and Technology (Congestion Charging) team is responsible for camera networks, signs and boundaries, complementary measures and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) right across London. That lends itself to an immense variety of projects and departmental crossovers – all of which you’ll get a chance to influence with the data you and your professional GIS team produce.

Managing the team, the facilities and the resources needed, you’ll implement the vital infrastructure behind delivery of Congestion Charging and Low Emission Zone schemes. To achieve the results we’re after, you’ll build relationships across TfL and with external partners, and provide the specific framework that directs our use of GIS and Computer Aided Design (CAD).

With sound experience of working in the GIS sector and a degree or equivalent in GIS or Computer Science/Geography, you’ll be a forward thinker willing to embrace change and implement new ideas. An expert in ESRI Arcmap and MapInfo GIS software, your experience of managing GI within a local government environment will have given you an appreciation of licensing and copyright issues and the importance of data integrity. Other than that, a sharp eye is needed to maintain our high standards in map and data quality.

This is all major work that’ll contribute greatly to improving London’s transport system and also to achieving the Mayor’s Vision of reduced congestion, reduced pollution and improved journey times. On top of the satisfaction you’ll get from your part in that, you’ll take home benefits like our employee discounts, travelcards and our pension in return.
