The
National Biodiversity Data Centre is the recently established biological records
centre for
The Centre
now wishes to employ a Data and GIS/ICT Manager to undertake the following key
tasks, and others as may arise:
The post
will be based at the National Biodiversity Data Centre, Carriganore,
The
appointed person will have the appropriate database and IT skills including
proven knowledge and aptitude in data management, database design, SQL querying,
and programming of tools for data extraction, transformation and loading. A background in, or knowledge of, natural
history or a related disciple will prove advantageous.
While it is
not expected that candidates will have expertise in all areas, applicants should
highlight those skills that match the Centre’s requirements. The main Compass GIS & Systems
Development team develops and supports all systems. The Data & ICT Manager will work
with this team and provide further expertise and
initiative.
NBDC Systems
Overview
The primary
database systems in use are Recorder, MapMate, TurboVeg, and SQL Server. Internal management systems include
SharePoint, Exchange Server, and a custom time tracking and project management
suite. The NBDC website, currently
being developed, uses DotNetNuke Content Management System. The NBDC mapping system, currently under
development uses SQL Server, ESRI GIS (ArcIMS/ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server), with
custom .Net programming, running on in-house servers.
