We have had similar requests (like you more just recently) and as we are
a small Borough Council the search is not that onerous. I have to say,
however, that the recent finding of murdered teenager Vicky Hamilton in
Margate is almost certainly due to the police authorities thorough
search for any sighting of or contact from her across the country. I
remember receiving the request about her and provided a nil response.
If there is a nil response from a local authority then this will
undoubtedly assist police in their search for missing persons as they
can then justify ruling out that area.

Subject: [data-protection] Police - Section 29(3) requests

Of late we have been getting more and more requests from police
authorities
(all over the country)under Section 29(3) to search for the
name(s)and/or
aliases of missing persons. I am getting concerned at the work involved
in
searching all the Authority's records on a regular basis. Do the
banks,Building Societies, FE etc people get these too ?

Has anyone else any views on these requests.
