Dear colleagues

I am a new member of the mailing list and would like to introduce me and
my work.

I am a trained cultural anthropologist who came to the UK in 2004 in
order to teach study of religions at Oxford University. Since January
2007 I am teaching at Bangor University, Wales.
My PhD was about the creation of identity with regard to Santeria and
Puerto Rican spiritism in Puerto Rico. Afterwards I did some research in
South America but returned to Caribbean Studies in 1998 for a research
about Caribbean immigrants and there religious communities in New York
(such as Santeria, Vodou and Shango). The monograph about this research
was published in German but will be out in English next year (Ashgate).
But if you want to see what I do, here is the announcement of a new book
about Trans-Caribbean identity to which I provided a chapter.

I hope to meet you soon, perhaps at the next conference in Edinburgh.

Best wishes, Bettina
