Programmer in Mobile and Pervasive Systems University of Bath

Description:
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath is recruiting a Research Programmer on the EPSRC-funded project "Cityware: 
urban design and pervasive systems".

The job is based at the University of Bath and will involve working closely with the Cityware industrial and academic partners (see www.cityware.org.uk).

Cityware is an interdisciplinary project which aims to extend our fundamental knowledge and understanding of people's relationships with urban pervasive technologies.  The project will demonstrate and test our advances in fundamental theory, knowledge, principles, tools and techniques through the design, deployment and evaluation of city-scale pervasive systems that embody and test our research proposals and findings.

The Research Programmer will work in a team developing, deploying, maintaining and supporting novel prototype systems, applications and services running across a range of platforms including fixed and mobile devices, using both wired and wireless networking.  Wireless networking will include 802.11, Bluetooth, GSM/GPRS and 3G cellphone connectivity.

The successful applicant will have excellent skills in programming in a language such as Java, C or C++ and sound knowledge of shell-scripting. 
  Previous experience and working knowledge of programming "smart" 
mobile phones, preferably Symbian based, programming Bluetooth devices and applications, and Flash programming would be desirable

This is an excellent opportunity to combine practical programming work with an exciting research environment and very strong links with industry.
