Hello,

I am no expert on sampling theory or error rates and I would like some advice, if possible.

A researcher has carried out a survey and has a population of potential respondents of 300. From this 300 the researcher has obtained 64 responses. The researcher would like to know how many responses they would need to get an error rate of 0.2, which presumably means 2% on a question with a score out of 10.

My (probably incorrect) calculations suggest that, after using the finite population correction factor, we would need 267 responses for an error rate of 2%.

I don't think the researcher will be overjoyed to hear that, so I wanted to get some advice before I say "you need 267 out of 300"!

Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.
