As you have gathered from Kim Etherington, Kip Jones' Performative Social Sciences at the University of Bournemouth is an exciting and creative UK academic initiative. In addition, I came across the Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts at the University of Bath www.bath.ac.uk/icia yesterday, and hope to visit their gallery tomorrow. I hadn't known about the Bath institute, when I wrote my doctoral thesis, 'Living Playful Inquiry', but I did draw inspiration and encouragement from a/r/tography, an inquiry process being pioneered by Rita Irwin and others at the University of British Columbia, Canada. a=artist, r=researcher, t=teacher, and -graphy for writing about these interconnected processes. I hold an M.A. in psychology, specialising in qualitative methodologies, and have recently resigned as the Executive Director of a South African HEI offering degrees in the visual arts. Hence, Performative Social Science represents the marriage of two primary focal points in my life: qualitative social science enquiry and graphic arts. My reason for resigning was that I intend pursuing PhD studies in the UK in 2008, so I would appreciate hearing of any emerging opportunities within this field. One of my many areas of interest is in (qualitative expressions of) stress research, specifically within an education context. I look forward to engaging in the interactions of this group.
