Kostas.

'Unlocking the treasure house with digital keys'- Manchester Museum, 3-5pm on Wednesday 7th November

Dr Keene is Reader in Museum and Heritage Studies, and a prolific author/editor. Her works include Fragments of the World: Uses of Museum Collections (2005); Managing Conservation in Museums (2002) and Digital Collections: Museums in the Information Age (1998). She is also very closely involved in museum policy and practice, as exemplified by her involvement in the major collaborative project, 'Collections for the People: The Stored Collections of UK Museums as a Public Resource'.

Two current developments come together in Dr Keene's paper next week: the extent to which stored collections in museums are a useful resource, and developments in digital technology that represent semantics, meaning, in web resources, and others that enable users to participate and contribute to those resources. Current research into the uses of collections will be discussed in the light of these developments.

Her seminar is part of our ongoing series, SHOWCASE: The Manchester Museum
Research Seminar, http://www.museum.manchester.ac.uk/whatson/seminars/
