*** (Deep) Web 2.0 Course  *** 

A hands on course, organised by CDG WM, that looks at Web 2.0 technologies 
and the "deep Web". Topics covered include the following: 

 
Part 1:  Web 2.0 - what is it?
 

- Wikis, Blogs and RSS

- From Friends Reunited to Facebook

- Your virtual desktop - social bookmarks and file sharing

 
Part 2: The Deep Web

 
- What is it? When did it start? 

- Timetables, entertainment listings and dynamic information

- Bibliographic databases and library catalogues

- Shopping sites, Online calendars, Chat, messaging and fora

- Multimedia (or, the importance of metadata): pictures, music and film


The course is led by Paula Younger who is currently the Electronic 
Resources Librarian at Exeter Health Library in Devon. She also does 
freelance information work from home – mainly involving tracking down 
obscure facts like how many teeth does the average slug have*.  Previous 
employers include the MoD and the Hokkaido Board of Education.

 
Venue:  Aston University Library & Information Services - within walking
