Subject: CAA UK Conference 2008 - Call for papers

CAA UK Conference 1-2 February 2008 - The University of York Call for Papers
- deadline 9th November 2007

The CAA UK chapter is intended as a forum for research in the area of
archaeological computing and quantitative methods. The chapter meeting aims
to facilitate exchange of ideas between researchers and cultural resource
managers, and is particularly focused on the presentation of new and
innovative research areas. The meeting organisers are also particularly keen
to encourage new researchers to present their work for the first time.

The CAA UK 2008 Chapter Meeting will be jointly hosted by the Department of
Archaeology of the University of York, the Archaeology Data Service and
Internet Archaeology on 1-2 February 2008. For further details of the
conference and a booking form please visit our conference website:
http://www.york.ac.uk/conferences/caauk2008/

Twenty minute papers and poster presentations are invited on any subject
within the broad sphere of archaeological computing. We intend to put
together an interesting and varied programme and will be pleased to consider
submissions on any related topic. The following suggested themes should act
as a guide and starting point:

* The use of IT in relation to exhibition, display, interpretation,
education, outreach and documentation within museums
* Data quality, standards and access: initiatives for improving the coverage
and quality of cultural databases, and for widening access to electronic
resources
* Spatial technologies and methods: computational approaches to space
including simulation, spatial modelling, spatial analysis, and spatial
theory in landscape and urban contexts
* Visualisation, research and the media: three-dimensional computing
techniques for interpreting and presenting archaeological data
* Maritime archaeology and computing: geophysical, modelling, recording and
interpretative approaches to maritime questions
* Innovative computing and statistical techniques in ceramics, lithic
analysis, osteoarchaeology, dating and other archaeological sciences

Please send abstracts of up to 250 words to [log in to unmask] by 09
November 2007.

Best wishes,

CAA UK Organising Committee
