Dear Colleague,
Professor John Tomlinson CBE
Dear
Colleague,
I would like to invite you on behalf of
NIACE and The National Association of Specialist Colleges (Natspec) to the
Professor John Tomlinson Memorial Lecture.
Professor John Tomlinson CBE chaired the
groundbreaking committee that produced the report Inclusive Learning in
1996. This seminal report argued that the educational system has to change in
order to enable institutions to understand and respond to individual learners’
requirements and to create an appropriate educational environment for all,
including those with disabilities or learning difficulties.
It is eleven years since Inclusive
Learning was published and two years since Professor Tomlinson died. NIACE and Natspec, with support from the
Learning and Skills Council, wish to mark this occasion and the importance of
John’s particular contribution, with a lecture in his
honour.
I am delighted that the evening will be
supported by John’s family and those who were associated with the Committee’s
work, and by providers, teachers and learners too. The lecture will be given by Professor
Bob Fryer CBE, Chief Learning Advisor – Department of Health. The title of the
lecture is: ‘Saving adult learning: liberal education and inclusivity
post-Leitch’. Helen Sexton, Chair of Natspec will chair the
evening.
The lecture will be held on Wednesday
31st October at the Kings Fund, 11-13 Cavendish Square, London and
will begin at 6.30 p.m. Registration will open with refreshments from 5.30 p.m.
onwards. The lecture will conclude with a glass of wine and light finger buffet
at around 8pm, closing at 9 p.m.
I do hope you will wish to attend. This is a personal
invitation and places are limited.
I would be grateful if you could let me know if you are able to join
us. A form is attached so that you
can either fax or post it back to Gurjit Kaur in our Conferences Team by Friday
19th October.
Yours
sincerely
Alan
