Senior GIS Project Scientist £27,622 - £36,416 Health Protection Agency Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response, Porton Down, Salisbury The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is an independent public sector organisation dedicated to protecting the nation's health. Combining public health, scientific expertise and research within one organisation, the Agency protects against harm from infections, environmental hazards and emergencies that can include chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear threats. The GIS Team at the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response is responsible for providing an HPA-wide GIS service. This includes development of GIS capabilities underpinning HPA Emergency Preparedness and Response and the Microbial Risk Assessment programme. The team uses ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server and Oracle technologies to examine, and respond to, natural or deliberate health threats to the UK. Many detailed national mapping datasets are managed within the system including Ordnance Survey MasterMap and other datasets for GIS analysis such as service locations, demographics, climate, topography, health and ecological data. A number of datasets are held on European and Global scales. A Senior GIS Project Scientist is required to manage specific GIS projects within the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response and provide Senior level GIS support across the Agency. You will be educated to at least first degree level in GIS or an Environmental subject with a significant GIS component and have significant experience of GIS application within Government, Research or Commercial organisations. You will have experience of ArcGIS or MapInfo and good communication skills are required. You will be required to apply for, and obtain, UK Security Clearance.
