ASSOCIATION FOR MODERN GERMAN STUDIES CALL FOR PAPERS WORD, IMAGE AND SOUND: INTERMEDIALITY IN GERMAN CULTURAL DISCOURSE BANGOR UNIVERSITY 27-29 JUNE 2008 The Association for Modern German Studies invites proposals for papers to be delivered at an interdisciplinary conference at Bangor University in June 2008. This conference seeks to explore the interplay between a variety of visual and textual media in the German-speaking world from 1945 to the present day. Contributions are welcome from those working on issues of intermediality in relation to text, film, art, architecture, photography, sculpture and music, and may choose to look at questions of cultural representation across different media or of different media within one cultural artefact. Areas which the conference hopes to explore include the following: • Adaptations and borrowings • The blurring and crossing of interdisciplinary boundaries • Cultural packaging and re-packaging • Issues of medial friction between different art forms Papers should be 20 minutes in length and may be delivered in English or German.
