[apologies for duplication]
a staged adaptation of hitchcock's *39STEPS* is currently
playing in boston . . . if you have any interest in hitchcock -- or in the
larger question of the relationship between genre and the constructions of
meaning -- you probably owe it to yourself to see this, since it raises [or at
least suggests] a number of interesting larger questions . . . it is also
immensely entertaining . . . i saw it last night and am only beginning to work
through the various ways in which its playing with generic conventions allows
for a complex layering of signification -- topics that might be worth exploring
on list if others see it and want to share their thoughts
but if you're in new england you have to hurry -- it's
running here, at the huntington, only through 14 october . . . it is
apparently also running at this time in the west end and is scheduled to open
in NY in the winter so if you're lucky enough to be in either of those cities you
have more chances to catch it
