You may remember that I was interested in this code and its application to the private sector. It's taken a while for my enquiry to get to the top of the UKIC's pile, but here is the answer they sent me earlier today: BEGINS: One of the main motivations for the creation of the Code of Practice was to address the increase in data sharing which is currently taking place by bodies in the public sector. However, it was also recognised that the sharing of personal information is becoming an ever increasing part of private sector activity. With this in mind, the Code of Practice has been purposely written so that it can be used by both public and private sector bodies to establish their own personal information sharing procedures. ENDS The question I have for us all is "Under what circumstances would we envisage data being shared by the private sector with other organisations, either private or public? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Tim Trent* - Consultant */Tel/*: +44 (0)7710 126618 */web/*: ComplianceAndPrivacy.com <http://complianceandprivacy.com> - where busy executives go to find the news first */personal blog/*: timtrent.blogspot.com/ <http://timtrent.blogspot.com/> */petition:/*: Let's rebuild _and refloat_ the Cutty Sark <http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/TallShip/> *Important*: This message is private and confidential.
