Industrial Heritage 2007
Second European contact weekend for industrial heritage volunteers and associations
Kortrijk - Zwevegem, 16-17-18 .11. 2007 (new dates)
After a succesfull first meeting last year in October, attended by representatives from 11 countries, E-FAITH is now going to organize a second European contact weekend for volunteers and non profit organisations that are engaged in the research, the preservation, the interpretation and/or the presentation of the industrial and technical heritage.
- E-FAITH, the European Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage is a young platform promoting contacts and co-operation between non profit volunteer associations, the place where those can meet, exchange experiences, learn from each other and support each other’s activities an campaigns.
It will again be an open and stimulating meeting where organisations and individuals can present and compare their ideas, projects and results - and find out where cooperation or common projects can grow, how they can support the aims of colleagues and how colleagues can support their objectives. This will be possible by lectures and oral presentations, leaflets, information stands, posters and small exhibits. Each participant is allowed to use the presentation techniques that to him/her seems to be the most appropriate.
The main themes of the meeting will be:
- European bordercrossing cooperation between industrial and technical heritage associations
- twinning between associations
- exchanging experiences from the field
This second contact weekend is organised on November 16th-18th in Kortrijk and Zwevegem (Belgium). Both towns are situated on the French-Belgian border, less than 30 km from Lille (France)
This second European Industrial and Technical Heritage Weekend will take place in in the former electrical power station of Zwevegem (protected by law and now being transformed into a multifunctional cultural, music, meetings and business center) and in the National Flax Museum in Kortrijk. The power station of Zwevegem holds turbo generators and other machinery of Belgian, French, Swiss, Swedish, Hungarian, etc. origin and offers a real 'European' story of electricity production.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit the power station in detail.
On Sunday November 18th there will be a facultative bus tour in the region (25 euro, lunch included), visiting the flax heritage (e.g. retting and scutching), windmills (oil and grain mill, and the last flax scutching windmill of Europe recently restored by a volunteer association), steam engines, etc.

Deuxième Rencontre Européenne pour les bénévoles et les associations du patrimoine industriel et technique

Après une première réunion couronnée de succès, qui a été organisée en octobre de l’année dernière et a accueilli des représentants de 11 pays, E-FAITH organise dès à présent la tenue d’une deuxième rencontre européenne pour les bénévoles et les associations à but non lucratif engagés dans la recherche, la conservation, l’interprétation et/ou la présentation du patrimoine industriel et technique.
- E-FAITH, La Fédération Européenne des Associations du Patrimoine Industriel et Technique (European Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage) est une jeune plate-forme qui vise à promouvoir les contacts et la coopération entre les associations à but non lucratif, par la mise en place de lieux où elles peuvent se rencontrer, échanger des expériences, apprendre de nouvelles compétences et soutenir les activités des autres associations.
Comme la première réunion, cette nouvelle rencontre se veut dynamique et ouverte à toutes les associations et individuels qui peuvent présenter et comparer leurs idées, leurs projets et leurs résultats. Elle peut être également l’occasion de se renseigner sur le développement de coopérations ou de projets communs, sur les moyens de soutenir les objectifs des collègues et comment ceux-ci peuvent aider dans les buts qu’ils se sont fixés.
Les participants ont la possibilité de présenter leurs réalisations, leurs activités, leurs projets et leurs objectifs de différentes manières : lectures et présentations orales, brochures, stands d’information, affiches ou petites expositions. Chaque participant est libre de choisir les moyens techniques qu’il juge les plus appropriés pour sa présentation.
Les thèmes principaux de la rencontre seront :
- la coopération européenne transfrontalière entre les associations du patrimoine industriel et technique;
- le jumelage entre les associations;
- l’échange d’expériences de terrain.
Ce second week-end de rencontres est organisé les 16-18 novembre 2007 à Kortrijk (Courtrai) et Zwevegem en Belgique. Ces deux villes sont situées à la frontière franco-belge, à moins de 30 km de Lille (France).
Cette Seconde Rencontre Européenne pour le Patrimoine Industriel et Technique se déroulera dans l’ancienne centrale électrique de Zwevegem (protégée au titre des monuments historiques et en cours de reconversion pour devenir un centre multifonctionnel dédié à la culture, la musique, l’organisation d’évènements et le commerce) et dans le Musée National du Lin à Courtrai.
La centrale électrique de Zwevegem contient des générateurs et d’autres machineries originaires de Belgique mais également de France, de Suisse, de Suède, d’Hongrie, etc. qui offrent aux visiteurs une vraie histoire européenne de la production d’électricité. Les participants auront la possibilté de visiter cette centrale électrique dans sa totalité.
Le dimanche 18 novembre est proposée une excursion en bus facultative (25 euro), pour visiter la région, découvrir son patrimoine linier, (par exemple rouissage et teillage), ses moulins à vent (des moulins à huile et à grains, et le dernier moulin à vent à teiller le lin d’Europe qui a été restauré par une association de bénévoles), des machines à vapeur, etc.

2. Europäisches Wochenende zum Erhalt des industriellen und technischen Erbes
an dem sich Freiwillige und Vereine aus verschiedenen Ländern treffen werden
Kortrijk und Zwevegem (Belgien): vom 16. bis 18. 11. 2007
Nach einem ersten erfolgreichen Treffen voriges Jahr in Beringen, mit Teilnehmern aus 11 verschiedenen Ländern, organisiert E-FAITH, am Wohnende des 16. bis 18. November 2007 ein zweites Europäisches Wochenende zum Erhalt des industriellen und technischen Erbes, an dem Freiwillige und Vereine aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern neue internationale Kontakte knüpfen können.
- E-FAITH, die European Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage (der europäische Verband der Vereine zum Erhalt des industriellen und technischen Erbes) ist eine Plattform für Zusammenarbeit und Austausch, wo Freiwillige und Vereine sich treffen, von einander lernen und einander unterstützen können.
- In allen Ländern Europas gründen sich die Erforschung, der Erhalt und die Erschließung vom industriellen und technischen Erbe hauptsächlich auf den Einsatz unzähliger Freiwilliger und nichtstaatlicher Organisationen.
- Ohne ihr Engagement wären viele industriearchäologisch bedeutsame Denkmäler, Gegenstände und Dokumente, Zeugen von der Geburt und vom Wachstum der Industriegesellschaft für immer verloren gegangen.
- Ihr uneigennütziges und unentgeltliches Engagement wird jedoch von Behörden und Instituten noch manchmal unterbewertet.
Es wird ein offenes Treffen, an dem Gruppen und Personen ihre Ideen, Arbeiten und Projekte präsentieren und vergleichen können. Sie können auch herausfinden wo es neue Möglichkeiten zum Zusammenarbeiten gibt. Das geschieht mittels Prospekte, Informationsstände, kleiner Austellungen, oder kurzer Vorlesungen oder Präsentationen.
Dieses zweite Europäische Wochenende zum Erhalt des industriellen und technischen Erbes findet im Nazionalen Flachsmuseum (Kortrijk) und im ehemaligen Elektrizitätswerk Zwevegem statt. In diesem alten, unter Denkmalschutz gestellten Elektrizitätswerk sind alte Dampfturbinen, Generatoren und Maschinen aus Belgien, Schweden, Deutschland, Ungarn und aus der Schweiz aufbewahrt . Das Werk wird im Moment renoviert und zu einem multifunktionalen Kultur-, Musik- und Gewerbezentrum umgebaut. Am Sonntag können die Teilnehmer, wenn sie das wünschen, das einmalige Erbe der Flachsregion Kortrijk (Flachsbetriebe, die letzte Flachswindmühle Europas, Dampfmaschinen, usw.) besuchen.
Der Kostenbeitrag wurde so niedrig wie möglich gehalten, um auch den kleinsten Gruppen die Teilnahme ohne übermäßige Belastung des Budgets zu ermöglichen. Teilnehmer zahlen also einen "Solidaritätsbeitrag" von 25 Euro (für Mitglieder) oder 35 Euro (für nicht-Mitglieder) pro Person, Kosten für Dokumentation, Kaffeepausen und Mittagessen am Samstag einbegriffen. Die fakultative Führung am Sonntag kostet 25 Euro.
