Dear Researchers, who find and use collections of artefacts which are held in museums and university collections, Evidence Base at Birmingham City University (formerly the University of Central England it Birmingham) is carrying out a study to determine HOW you do this on behalf of the Research Information Network (http://www.rin.ac.uk/), which aims to understand and promote the information needs of researchers. The study being undertaken by Evidence Base focuses on four subject areas (social and economic history, archaeology, history of art and palaeontology) and looks at how researchers currently find out about, and gain access to, artefacts held in museums or elsewhere; what problems they can experience; and what might be done to make it easier for researchers to make greater use of artefacts. More details of the study, its aims and remit can be found at http://www.ebase.bcu.ac.uk/projects/finding-aids-discovery-services.html.
