You might be interested in having a look at Rob Preece's 'The Psychology of Buddhist Tantra'. When I read it, I just kept saying 'yes, but that's magic!' which of course it is. Particularly the bits about visualisation etc. (It was originally self-published as 'The Alchemical Buddha' which was a much better title; but I'm glad a major publisher has picked it up and made it more widely available.)
