Hi Alan

I guess if the NHS IP addresses have been tinkered with then access to IP authenticated content would be blocked.
So I suppose yes!  Only time will tell.

Cheers
Andy

Hello all,

If it is the NHSNet IP range changing again then we can look forward to being kicked out of the BMJ for the same reason shortly...

Cheers

Alan

Hi Katherine

I've just googled your problem (on a non-NHS Net machine) and found an interesting posting on Google Groups (http://groups.google.com/group/google.public.support.general/msg/2f1b195cdbe0b2df).

If I'm right, it looks as though NHS net has a limited IP range for users linking out. Consequently, if Google sees thousands of page requests from the same IP address it thinks that it's being attacked. If correct, this would certainly be an NHS net problem.

Hope this helps
Andy ;-)

Dear All

Thanks to all those who replied to me. It seems to vary across the country and even across Essex, as to whether you can access a Google search without coming across the forbidden page this morning or not.
Some people have helpfully tried on both NHS net and  non-NHS PCs and found it works on the non-NHS net ones, which implies an N3 problem, but this is not consistent.

I did search the Lis-Medical archives for comments about this problem previously, but couldn't find anything.

I think I'll just have to put up with it and see how it progresses. ......

Many thanks to all again

Best wishes

Katherine

Subject: Google forbidden?

Dear all

Is anyone else having problems with Google this morning?
We can access the UK homepage, and type in our search, but we are then presented with a "403 forbidden" error page which says "We're sorry but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.  ....  To continue searching, please type the characters you see below: "
Typing in the characters allows us to continue searching, but it's very annoying to have to do this every time you want to use Google.

I seem to recall this happening before and it was a result of IT somewhere making changes to the NHS IP addresses. I've spoken to our IT helpdesk, but they are typically saying the problem is with Google, not as a result of anything they've done!

Can anyone shed any light on this?
Many thank in advance

Katherine
