THE REALLY EFFECTIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY
6 November 2007, London

If you want your school library to be really effective, you have to develop services to meet the needs and priorities of your users. What activities and interventions will best support teaching and learning in your school? How do your priorities reflect what is going on in the rest of the school?

Effectiveness is context specific, but you can use the research to help you make decisions about what is likely to work, how it might be implemented, and how you can collect evidence to demonstrate that you are making a difference.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
The course will take you through the process of:
* considering your options
* choosing some priorities and exploring how to take them forward
* planning how to collect the evidence that you need in order to show your impact. (This part of the course will draw heavily on the self-evaluation tools developed for school libraries).

The day will draw on a wide range of available research to identify what is known about the most effective interventions to support learning and teaching.

Participants will have the opportunity to consider what might transfer to their own contexts and be able to share ideas/experience with others in similar situations.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Those working in secondary school libraries who wish to become more effective, to engage in real developmental planning, and demonstrate their impact to the rest of the school (and to themselves)

COURSE LEADER: SHARON MARKLESS
Sharon has worked as a teacher both in secondary schools and further education. She currently works in higher education with lecturers and professionals to enhance their teaching.
