This book analyses the geo-strategic importance of the Durand Line, drawn in 1893 between the British Indian Government and Afghanistan, and its complications for Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. It studies the compromise which geopolitical compulsions imposed upon the British in first defining an effective international border, a buffer state and a security system for the defence of the Indian Empire.
Further hypothesizing the Pukhtoonistan issue as the main cause of strained Pak-Afghan relations, it tries to establish a link between the domestic determinants and foreign policies of the two countries.
