By the end of this course, you will be able to: * Understand the importance of a planned approach to advocacy. * Identify the main considerations to be taken into account when making a business case for resources or services. * Use tools to analyse stakeholder views and local opinion leaders * Prepare a “business case”. * Identify strategies to enable you to present and deliver an effective presentation in support of your case. * Evaluate the effectiveness of your advocacy. * Engage with fellow participants in discussing issues connected with lobbying, campaigning and advocacy. Places are available to any librarian who serves staff working in the UK NHS. The course will be run over a period of ten weeks (eight taught weeks and two weeks for completion of a portfolio). Course materials are delivered by email, Web pages and PowerPoint and participants should expect to spend about 2-4 hours a week on course related activities over the duration of a course. Further details of the FOLIO programme are available at: http://cpdfolio.pbwiki.com/. Instructions to register for a provisional place on the Machiavel Course: There are three ways to join the Machiavel course. They are all managed through the FOLIO Jiscmail list: Method 1: Via the FOLIO List Homepage. (http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/folio.html) From the list homepage http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/folio.html follow the third bullet point link "Join or leave the list (or change settings)". Fill in your email address, name, and click on the 'Join...' button. Leave all other settings on the default settings. Method 2: Via Email. Send the command: SUBSCRIBE folio <forename surname> To either: [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask] Subject: The subject is ignored by LISTSERV, so can be left blank. Message: Ideally, all that should be present in the Message body is the command SUBSCRIBE folio <forename surname>. Note: Your email address is automatically taken from your email, as is your name if present. Example: SUBSCRIBE folio Joe Bloggs Method 3: Via the Jiscmail Subscriber's Corner facility. Subscriber's Corner is a powerful tool for managing your subscriptions. Though detailed to use at first but, once you get used to it, is much more flexible than other methods. From http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk select "Subscriber's Corner" from the QUICK LINKS listing on the left-hand side. When you are in Subscriber's Corner - On the left-hand navigation bar, type in "folio" in the 'Narrow selection' field. Change 'Show' to "All lists" and then click on Submit. You should then see a table containing the "folio" list. Tick the box to the left of folio, at the bottom of the table change the drop down list box to "Subscribe" and click on 'Submit changes'. [DO NOT select the e- FOLIO list which is for another course entirely]. NOTE: Once you have submitted your request to join via any of these three methods you will have registered a provisional booking for the course. Your booking will be confirmed by email during the week beginning Monday 8th October 2007. Please only join if you are seriously considering undertaking the course. If your circumstances change in the meantime please unsubscribe at your earliest opportunity to free up a place for another librarian. If you have any queries about the above, please contact us at: [log in to unmask] and we will be happy to help. Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you on the course! Anthea Sutton on behalf of the FOLIO Team.
