BACK ON TRACK: A CREATIVE APPROACH TO WORKING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE WITH CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR

Wednesday 14th November 2007

10am - 4.30pm

Venue:

Oval House Theatre

52- 54 Kennington Oval
London SE11 5SW

Calling all teachers, support staff, artists, mentors, social workers, youth workers and YOT workers...This training day is open to anyone who wishes to empower and enable young people to actively engage in understanding themselves, their behaviour and barriers to learning. No previous drama experience is necessary.

Since the 1960's, Oval House Theatre has used drama and associated participatory arts to involve some of the most excluded young people in South London. Over the past eight years we have developed 'Back on Track', a unique arts education programme led by a team of arts educators, professional actors, writers and drama practitioners that is delivered to Southwark and Lambeth schools, PRU's and youth offending teams.

Back on Track is a project that uses the participatory arts to actively engage young people who are on the brink of exclusion or other crises due to anti-social or challenging behaviour. It aims to equip young people with transferable life skills to enable them to make positive choices in their lives:

The programme aims to empower young people to make positive decisions regarding their future, re-engage them in their learning, help them understand and overcome the barriers they face, give them strategies for effective communication, change their leisure culture, introduce them to new cultural activities and encourage their involvement in the wider world.

We are offering an exciting inset-training day on Wednesday 14th November 2007 for all those interested in using dramatic techniques with 10 -18 year olds with challenging behaviour.

'The mentors are still raving about the last training

and many who did not come feel they missed out.'

            Excellence in Cities Strand Co-ordinator.
