Offers are invited for the Supply of ESO Consultancy to Cardiff University.

The electronic information service called European Sources Online (ESO), previously published by
the commercial publisher ProQuest, has been taken over by Information Services at Cardiff
University. A provisional service has been offered from 1 August 2007 and a full re-launch is
planned for January 2008.

European Sources Online (ESO) is an online database which provides access to information on the
institutions and activities of the European Union, the countries, regions and other international
organisations of Europe, and on the issues of importance to European citizens and stakeholders. ESO
provides access to thousands of expertly selected, well known and less well known websites,
documents and publications from the EU and other international organisations, national governments,
think tanks, stakeholder organisations, working papers etc, full text articles from authoritative
news sources Financial Times and European Voice, plus bibliographic records to key academic
textbooks and periodical articles, and a series of unique Information Guides compiled by the ESO
Editorial Team.

ESO is headed by Ian Thomson, Executive Editor, who is also the Director of the South Wales Europe
Direct Information Centre (SWEDIC) and Manager of the European Documentation Centre at Cardiff
University. ESO will become a central feature of the activities of SWEDIC.

Consideration is being given to appointing the following consultants. You may tender for either, or
both, of the following consultancy posts:

Consultancy One. The consultant will hold responsibility for the revision of the existing
Information Guides (and in due course the creation of new Guides). This will require a reading of
the narrative text of each Information Guide, and a complete revision following research to reflect
current circumstances, and the checking, replacement and creation of appropriate hyperlinks to
further sources of information. It is anticipated that this contract will begin in October/November
2007 and that this will involve up to ten hours of work a week. For the first two months of the
contract it is anticipated that the consultancy will involve up to twenty hours a week.

Consultancy Two: The primary task will be the creation and amendment of index records, and the
finding and replacing of broken hyperlinks in the service. This will involve up to eighteen hours of
work a week. It is anticipated that this contract will begin in October/November 2007. For the
first two months of the contract it is anticipated that the consultancy will involve up to forty
hours a week. A minimum number of records per month will be required.
