                        Responsibilities
                        Under the general supervision of the Chief, Emerging Social Issues Division, Chief, Population and Social Integration Section, and the direct supervision of the Social Affairs Officer in charge of disability sub-programme, the project expert will be responsible for the following duties: 

                         

                        a) Assist in the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of a project that would promote the implementation of the Biwako Millennium Framework for Action towards an Inclusive, Barrier-free and Rights-based Society for Persons with Disabilities in Asia and the Pacific (BMF), the Biwako Plus Five and the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. 

                         

                        b) Assist in organizing and servicing of disability-related meetings and workshops including identification and selection of participants, communications with the participants, preparation of background documents, reports, and organization of side-events. 

                         

                        c) Liaise and partner with organizations (e.g., Governments, civil society and professional organizations, research institutions, academia, the United Nations system) as well as experts in the disability and development fields to gather information and to collaborate on the project implementation. 

                         

                        d) Assist in the compilation of information and data on disability and the analysis of the situation at national, sub-regional and regional levels. e) Undertake other assignments related to the promotion of the BMF, Biwako Plus Five, and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. 

                         

                        f) Assist the supervisor in matters concerning day-to-day operations.

                        * Technology Awareness: Fully proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications, e.g. word processing, graphics software, spreadsheets and other statistical applications, Internet, etc. 

                         

                        * Managing Performance - Delegate the appropriate responsibility, accountability and decision-making authority; make sure that roles, responsibilities, and reporting lines are clear to each staff member; accurately judge the amount of time and resources needed to accomplish a task and matches task to skills; monitor progress against milestones and deadlines; regularly discuss performance and provide feedback and coaching to staff; actively supports the development and career aspirations of staff; appraise performance daily.

                        QUALIFICATIONS 
                       

                        Education
                        Advanced university degree, in sociology, law, disability studies, development studies and/or other related social science. 
                       

                        Work Experience
                        Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the work on disability, social development, and policy analysis at the international level. Working experiences with the United Nations is an advantage. 
                       

                        Languages
                        English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat: For this post, fluency in written and oral English is essential. 
                       

                        Other Skills
                        Familiarity with application of the United Nations rules and regulations and ability to apply them appropriately is desirable. Proficiency of standard IT applications, such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access) and database management.
