I share some of Sarah's concern. Because of what I do and have always done I see the immense benefit of this database. I suggest that the benefits we see published are just the tip of the iceberg. I would be happy to provide my DNA for inclusion on the database but understand the concern that many have. The concerns I think are similar to the ID Card. I don't have any problem with it and have a pocketful of them depending what head I am wearing that day. I suggest that one of the questions that the powers to be should ask while considering this problem is:- Would the government abuse it? Well for me that is a no brainer. I want to be in a world where rapists and murderers can be identified quickly, where criminals can be brought to justice on the strength of solid evidence. But then I realise that this is an almost utopian view. I agree that there is no way we can effectively manage and support such a massive endeavour, its far too expensive and logistically impossible to fully populate. Plus, I'm not guilty of any crime...why should I have to submit my biological identity to an insecure system and risk a whole host of unthinkable mistakes! My DNA is my castle....no-one is getting in!
