AAG 2008 CALL FOR PAPERS "Geographies of brands and branding" 15-19 April 2008, Boston, USA. http://www.aag.org/annualmeetings/2008/papers.htm Session Organiser: Andy Pike, Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS), Newcastle University, UK Brands and branding are pervasive phenomena across economy, society, polity and culture. Brands and branding have extended beyond just goods and services to encompass people, places, charities, campaigning organisations, universities, political parties and states. The uneven spatial manifestation, visibility and mobility of brands and branding make them significant and ripe objects for geographical study. Brands and branding provide a window onto the vital spaces at the intersections between economic, social, cultural and political geographies. Despite their importance and relevance, the geographies of brands and branding are a neglected and under-investigated topic. This session, then, seeks to bring together researchers working in this area to assess the state of the field and begin a dialogue better to understand brand and branding geographies. Potential themes for papers might include but are not limited to: Conceptualising and theorising the geographies of brands and branding Brands and branding in the spatial circuits of production, circulation, consumption and regulation Financialisation and branding Geographies of goods and services brands and branding Brands, branding and territorial development Space and place branding The geo-politics of brands and branding Uneven development and the limits of brands and branding If you are working in this area and are interested in contributing, please send abstracts (250 words max.) for possible inclusion in the session to Andy Pike ([log in to unmask]) by Friday 5 October 2007.
