Dear Colleagues, I was wondering whether you would be willing to share how your laboratories request glucose tests. Do you have a separate fasting glucose and random glucose request codes? If so - do your phlebotomists check the patient is fasting (do they indicate this anywhere?).. Or do you leave it to the requestor to explain this to the patient and assume this was adequate? Or do you just request "glucose" and let the requestor decide/fathom out whether the patient was fasting or not? If so - how do your requestors - particularly your GP's - feel about this system?
