Bri,
I'm happy to attend this - I'm just not sure how relevant to us it would be. The education part could be helpful but obviously it is only a small part of the day. What do you think?
Julie

Pot Luck: Engaging with Ceramics Collections
Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, Stoke on Trent
Wednesday 19th September 2007
10.30am - 4pm
A joint meeting Midlands Federation with the Ceramic Specialist Subject Network

Are ceramic collections an elitist irrelevance or an important tool in engaging new audiences with a rapidly declining industrial heritage? This joint meeting with the Ceramic Subject Specialist Network will look at how we can bring the china out of the cabinet (literally), exploring the challenges involved in making ceramics accessible and relevant to a broader audience. Speakers will discuss how ceramic collections held in museums are providing inspiration for modern industry, how ceramics can be used in museum education, and a new initiative in the East Midlands which aims to create a joint collecting policy for ceramics across museums.

A handling session with ceramics in the Museum's store will demonstrate one means by which ceramic collections can be made accessible to audiences, and there will be a chance to provide feedback and discuss how this approach could be applied to other museums and different types of collections.

There will also be an opportunity to look around the newly redisplayed ceramics galleries at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.

The Midlands Federation is very pleased that due to sponsorship from the Ceramic Subject Specialist Network, we are able to offer this meeting free of charge to delegates. However advance booking is essential, and in order to cover the costs of additional catering, cancellations will be charged our normal meeting fee of £12 for members, £17 for non-members.

For further information and bookings (due by 14 September) please see the attached documents. For all enquiries please contact:
