SEGREGATION, INTEGRATION, POPULATION CHANGES- HOW TO MEASURE IT?

Two days short course at CCSR, University of Manchester.
A few places are left.

DAY 1 - 5th September 2007
MEASURING DIVERSITY, SEGREGATION AND INTEGRATION
During this workshop various measures relating to different aspects of the
concept of diversity will be presented and discussed, at residential level
as well as in other key demographic areas, such as household structure or
labour market participation. Sessions will include: 'Indices of diversity,
integration and segregation', 'Household Structure', 'Labour Market
participation'. Practical sessions will focus on obtaining sub-national
profiles.

DAY 2 - 6th September 2007
MONITORING POPULATION CHANGE WITH AN ETHNIC GROUP DIMENSION

The ethnic composition of many local areas is changing. Monitoring and
projecting that change is a core research activity in support of
community cohesion, housing and other policies. The workshop will take a
demographic approach which measures both population change and migration,
showing
dispersal of new communities from urban to suburban areas. It will
include sessions on populations estimates; migration and natural change
within
the UK, fertility and morality, regional projections published by Joseph
Rowntree Foundation, and projections for local authority areas using
 CCSR software POPGROUP.
